All things Angele

Where do Angele products come from?

Angele pieces are designed in Melbourne, Australia.

We then work with a great team in Hong Kong to make our visions come to life. Our production/manufacturing team, is a small business that has been running for 14 years and is internationally qualified and certified by the responsible jewellery council. This ensures they are producing the quality of jewellery that is respected worldwide. Our team is so transparent in their process, and we are very luck to be so involved in the process. Not all businesses are fortunate enough to have such a great and open relationship with their suppliers, so we count ourselves very lucky. Once our products are carefully curated in Hong Kong they are then stored and kept safe here in Melbourne, Australia, where they are then sent out to our gorgeous customers.

You may be thinking, let's talk about sustainability. Our manufacturer has adopted many approaches to reach for a respected and sustainable approach. The silver that is featured in all Angele products are 100% recycled and packaging/protection used for the jewellery that the manufacturers use to supply to Angele, here in Melbourne are all biodegradable. Sustainability is an area that can always be improved. If changes are ever made to our standard of sustainability, we will always update our community.

What is Gold vermeil?

Gold vermeil is defined as jewellery that is sterling silver, coated in gold that is at-least 10 carat. In Australia the standard thickness of gold that can be defined as vermeil is 1 micron thick. Here at Angele our coating is all 18K gold that is at-least 2.5microns to ensure the highest quality plating as possible.

To some this may just sound like standard gold plated jewellery, however, gold plated jewellery, that is not vermeil, most commonly is not on a sterling silver base and is also a much thinner coating, generally half the amount of gold plating as a gold vermeil product.

So, knowing all this, is gold vermeil really good quality? The answer is yes. Gold vermeil is the next best thing to buying gold filled products. However, you may even see benefit in buying vermeil over completely gold filled. This is because gold is actually a softer metal. Due to gold being soft wear and tear can occur to a product that is gold filled a-lot easier than one of gold vermeil standard.

In saying this, majority of Angele products are currently gold vermeil and soon to be only gold vermeil. We are excited about this switch in quality and hope this standard makes the Angele community proud to wear our pieces.
